Decorating your home is a great way to celebrate the arrival of spring and the Easter holidays, and there’s one particular centrepiece that’s skyrocketing in popularity this year.

Thought trees were only meant to be decorated for Christmas? It’s time to think again because Easter trees are the must-have seasonal decoration for 2021.

While it is certainly not a new concept – they are a centuries-old tradition in Germany, where they are called “ostereierbaum”, and are also a form of decoration in Sweden, where they are known as “paskris” – Easter trees have become more significant in the UK this year, as the bank holiday weekend marks the first time for months that many families and friends will be able to get together.

Interest in the spring-inspired decoration has shot up in recent weeks as people aim to make the Easter weekend one to remember. Sainsbury's has revealed that searches for Easter trees on its website have surged by 977 per cent compared to this time last year, while searches for Easter decorations to adorn their branches are up 948 per cent.

Only adding to the hype around them, “cleanfluencer” Mrs Hinch recently transformed her home into the ultimate Easter grotto and shared videos on Instagram stories of her very own sunshine yellow Easter tree that has been adorned with pastel-coloured eggs, as well as adorable chick and bunny ornaments.

Easter trees make a lovely table centrepiece that’s guaranteed to liven up your home for the occasion and setting up your own is also a fun activity to do over the half term with children.

While they are easy to DIY – simply pop a couple of branches or twigs in a pot or vase and bedeck them colourful finds – there are plenty of artificial versions and chic ornaments you can buy online.

If you’re in the market for an Easter tree, we’ve rounded up our favourites below, as well as a range of stylish decorations to give them the perfect finishing touch.

The tree doesn’t come with any decorations, meaning you get to choose how to style it, whether you prefer things minimal or want to make a statement.

Because it’s white, we think this also makes a great blank canvas that can be re-used all-year-round for any celebration, whether it’s Christmas or Halloween.
