Sian Elvin joined The Independent in early 2024 as a news editor. Previously an editor at Metro and at local publications in London and Kent for several years, she has a particular interest in crime, education and health. She was named an 'LGBTQ+ trailblazer' by Attitude Magazine on its 101 list in 2024, and was also once named one of 30 journalists to watch from across the UK under the age of 30. She is also a judge for the Kent Press and Broadcast Awards and a mentor for the John Schofield Trust.
