Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

What is it? A drama looking at the 1974 disappearance of Lord Lucan following the murder of a nanny, Sandra Rivett, in his home. Jeff Pope based his script on John Pearson’s speculative book The Gamblers; it stars Rory Kinnear and Christopher Eccleston.

The Independent says: “Even Pope’s astute script couldn’t quite shake off a growing sense of queasiness that here was murder regurgitated as entertainment … Lucan was a brilliantly acted, cleverly scripted and beautifully shot drama. I’m not sure it should have ever been made.”

They say: Metro: “Has all the elements of a corking crime thriller … The fly in the ointment being that we know this is a story without an ending … turning this story into the stuff of entertainment had just a whiff of shabby exploitation about it.”

The Telegraph: “The perfect ingredients for a dramatic retelling. Lucan, the first of two parts, was gripping and atmospheric.”

You say: @migrhodes: “Really enjoyed #Lucan last night. Rory Kinnear can do no wrong.”

@NicPandolfi: “Watched #Lucan last night in part because the cast said quality – well first Turkey of Xmas served up by ITV – should have been better.”
