The Chase controversy

The Chase provoked questions from viewers when the countdown clock appeared to favour the Chaser in the final money showdown.

Viewers spotted that the Chaser, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, was afforded more time in his questions during Wednesday’s episode.

When the countdown clock reached ten seconds, it freezes, with the timer appearing to increase to 11 seconds.

Rachel Leach tweeted a video of the glitch with the comment: “Added an extra second on for the chaser! 10 seconds turned to 10 seconds #thechase”

A spokesperson for the Chase told OK! Online: "There was an error on the clock on last night's episode of the Chase.”

“This error happened during the editing process and not in the studio when the show was being recorded so could not have affected the outcome in any way."

The contestants shared a jackpot of £27,000 and even received a rare complement from the Chaser.

"20 is a fantastic score and you deserved to win.”
