Ever since David Lynch announced that Twin Peaks would be returning after 26 years, fans have been eagerly anticipating any news surrounding the long-awaited third season.

There are details we do know - largely which cast members will be returning and which new actors to expect - but so far, word on a return date has been quiet save for Showtime CEO David Nevins stating it'd be back in the first half of 2017.

While there's still no official word, fansite Welcome To Twin Peaks thinks they've worked out when the cult series will hit screens thanks to the network's calendar.

The date of 30 April has been marked out with an image of the series while the entire month of May has the same.

Lynch is said to have directed season three as a full film from a script he wrote co-creator Mark Frost. Nevins has promised that the release of episodes will be "unconventional."

Returning cast members include Kyle MacLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn, Dana Ashbrook and Sheryl Lee while, as shown in a recently released video, Lynch himself will reprise the role of detective Gordon Cole.

Composer Angelo Badalamenti will also return for the new series that'll also feature Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, Michael Cera and The Walking Dead actor Josh McDermitt.
