Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Top Gear has struggled since Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May left. Both series since the original trio left — the first with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc, the second with Leblanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid — have been met with negative, but improving reviews.

With some momentum behind them, LeBlanc, Harris, and Reid are returning and hoping to further impress the British public. The new trio are busy promoting the BBC series, which begins this coming weekend.

So, what do you need to know? Look no further as we give the low-down on the upcoming series.

When does Top Gear return?

The 25th series of Top Gear begins Sunday 25 February at 8pm on BBC Two. The series will also be available on iPlayer.

Who’s presenting?

Former Friends actor LeBlanc, automotive journalist Harris, and former Gadget Geeks presenter Reid return, as does the The Stig. Speaking about the line-up, Harris addressed criticism there was no chemistry between them during the first series.

“It was just fanciful to think that you can just create a chemistry overnight. You don’t, do you?” he said, according to the BBC. “You have to learn where people’s funnybone is before you can start to poke fun and work out where that joy lies.”

What have we seen so far?

A trailer for the upcoming series was released online, featuring all the cinematic shots you expect from Top Gear, along with the usual antics.

Anything to look out for?

According to the trio, there’s one very fun sequence involving eggs that left the team hiring a jet washer to clean a car. There’s also a stunt that sees Harris flying through the air in a car — unfortunately, Harris is scared of flying. There was also one incident during filming where a car set on fire – worth keeping an eye out for that particular sequence which was only narrowly escaped by Harris and Eddie Jordan.

Top Gear 25 starts Sunday 25 February at 8pm on BBC Two.
