From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Walking Dead season seven has a trailer and it's been unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2016; if you've come for answers surrounding which character was killed by Negan in season six's final moments, there are none to be had.
Going by the huge cliffhanger which ended the popular series' latest run in April, viewers have been beside themselves with anticipation to catch a glimpse of what's to come.
The trailer begins with a flashback to the chilling sequence which saw the new antagonist, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, select his victim by means of 'eeny meeny miny mo,' highlighting the many characters who are in the running to be bludgeoned to death in the new season's opening moments.
Following that, instead of dwelling on this talking point, the clip focuses on the characters we know are alive - namely Morgan (Lennie James) and Carol (Melissa McBride) who appear to have been taken in by a new faction named The Kingdom.
Despite her friends' plight, Carol especially seems more chipper than ever, exclaiming: "I don't know what the hell's going on in the most wonderful way."
The trailer culminates in our first look at The Kingdom's leader Ezekiel (Khary Payton) as well as his pet tiger who doesn't seem too friendly (still, we'd take it over Negan).
Only that's not it. An enticing prologue proceeds to show Tara (Alanna Masterson) - last seen heading to the Hilltop Colony with Heath (Corey Hawkins) - now very much in danger and alone save for unknown enemies and some hungry walkers.
At least we now know when exactly we'll discover the identity of Negan's victim:The Walking Dead returns in the US on 23 October with a UK airdate expected to follow on FOX the very next day.
