The first teaser trailer for The Handmaid's Tale has been released by Hulu ahead of its April 2018 season 2 return.

The clip doesn't give much away but sees a handmaid - presumably Elisabeth Moss's Offred - stealthily running down a dark corridor holding a flashlight.

Her "wings" hat is notably in her hand, perhaps a reference to her trying to shake off the handmaid role in the new season - we last saw her facing punishment after refusing to stone Ofwarren/Ofdaniel to death.

The teaser confirms that season 2 is in production and will be released in April, but more revealing is a synopsis for the season Hulu released concurrently:

'The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.'

The Handmaid's Tale airs on Hulu in the US and on Channel 4 and its on-demand service All 4 in the UK. Channel 4 has already confirmed it will broadcast the second season and, though it doesn't have a specific date yet, the first arrived shortly after the US transmission.
