Say hello to Walter Blanco: New trailer for Metastasis - the Colombian Breaking Bad

The characters will use a school bus as their makeshift meth lab

The first trailer for Metastasis, the Spanish-language version of the Emmy-winning TV drama Breaking Bad, has been unveiled.

Metastasis, which means the spreading of cancer, is set in Colombia and features Diego Trujillo as Walter Blanco – the Spanish speaking equivalent of Bryan Cranston's Walter White.

The trailer shows remade scenes of the original show's first episode, but there is one key difference.

Sony executive Angelica Guerra told The Hollywood Reporter that Walter’s infamous RV has been replaced for greater regional relevancy.

"Motor homes are not popular in Colombia," she said. "So audiences will see Walter and Jose (Jesse, the character played by Aaron Paul in the US version) cooking up their first several batches of methamphetamine in an old, barely drivable school bus."

The production in the trailer appears to be somewhat cheaper than the AMC original, but apparently producers have consulted with the show's creator Vince Gilligan to ensure they stay true to the source material.

In the trailer, a dramatic English voice-over says: "One of the most riveting series of all time finds a new voice in Metastasis: a fascinating re-telling that will capture Hispanic audiences like never before… The enduring characters; the gripping storytelling; the fact that everybody has a tipping point.”

Sony has sold Breaking Bad to 170 territories, but no other foreign language remakes are planned.

Metastasis has been sold to all major Spanish-speaking markets in Latin America, and will air on the UniMas network in the US.

Executives will be hoping that Metastasis gets off to a quicker start in the ratings than its English counterpart. The last episode of fifth and final series of the show brought in 10 million viewers, but it only began achieving sizeable audiences after four series and years of critical acclaim.
