From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Poldark fans rejoice! The BBC has confirmed Aidan Turner will return as Ross Poldark in less than two weeks, on Sunday 11 June at 9pm.

Since debuting in 2015, the series — an 18th-century drama that revolves around Turner’s titular character — has been met with increasingly positive reviews and high ratings.

Based on Winston Graham’s novels, the third series is based on the fifth and sixth books in the Poldark series, The Black Moon and The Four Swans.

Already, a fourth season has been commissioned by the BBC, Turner previously saying production would start in September later this year.

Speaking to The Independent about the upcoming series, Eleanor Tomlinson said: “We've got lots of new cast this series. [Myself and Turner] are becoming the golden oldies now. It's a bit strange.”

Other actors returning for the series include Heida Reed as Elizabeth, Jack Farthing as George Warleggan, Ruby Bentall as Verity, and Luke Norris as Dr Dwight Enys. Josh Whitehouse, Harry Richardson, and Tom York join as new cast members.
