Pete Davidson gives his first impressions on midterm election candidates and addresses divorce

Saturday Night Live cast members usually leave their personal lives firmly away from set, but Pete Davidson couldn’t resist discussing his budding relationship with, and engagement to, pop star Ariana Grande in recent months.

This also made it difficult for him to avoid their subsequent breakup.

Davidson stopped into SNL’s Weekend Update on Saturday, to discuss the upcoming US midterm elections.

“[They’re] obviously a huge deal, and after I had to move back in with my mum I started paying attention to them,” he joked.

The comedian went on to crack jokes about some of the candidates running for Congress on Tuesday, but circled back to the split from Grande.

“The truth is, it’s nobody’s business,” he said. “Sometimes things just don’t work out.

“She’s a wonderful, strong person and I wish her all the happiness in the world.”

Davidson wasn’t the only one publicly discussing his breakup on Saturday. Less than an hour before the SNL episode aired, grande released a new single called “Thank U, Next” (above) which expressed gratitude to her exes and discussed the collapse of her engagement to Davidson.

After seeing the promotional SNL clip, Grande wrote in a since-deleted tweet: “for somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh".
