Peaky Blinders: Series 5 - trailer

Peaky Blinders fans have been left confused by the news that the show will come to an end after its next series.

The sixth series has been delayed due to the pandemic, but creator Steven Knight has now revealed it will be the final outing for Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and co.

“We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it,” Knight said while announcing the news, adding: “While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

However, fans couldn’t help but express their disappointment considering they believed the BBC show would end with its seventh run.

In 2019, months before the release of the fifth series, Knight himself said he had a final scene in mind and that it would take “three more series” to reach.

“Hang on a minute...WHAT DO YOU MEAN FINAL SERIES???" one fan wrote on Twitter. "What happened to the season seven plans?? To the story of a family in between two wars??? I’m so happy yet so sad at the same time!”

“I’m so confused like, wasn’t there supposed to be a season seven??” another added.

A fellow fan wrote: “We were supposed to have a season seven or did I dream this info??”

It’s unclear what Knight’s plans are, but he has previously said he “wouldn’t want to do” a movie at the end of the series.

The drama has become one of the BBC’s most successful dramas since it began in 2013.
