In welcome news that may make you feel better about the state of humanity, Netflix US saw a major ratings drop on Monday as people put their tablets down and observed our Moon eclipsing our Sun.

The total eclipse was a rare and spectacular event, and Netflix wasn't mad about it.

"Hey, just wondering why 10% of you chose to watch a giant rock cover a giant ball of gas when I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR YOU," it tweeted. before following up a few seconds later: "But really, there was a 10% drop in plays during the eclipse today. Well played, Moon."

10% is a hefty chunk of viewership, though it's slightly sad thinking about the thousands of people who did spurn an astronomical phenomenon that may make you consider your place in the universe to watch season 7 of Suits.

The Independent has reached out to Pornhub to find out if the eclipse had a similar effect on porn consumption.
