Netflix is testing a 'restart scene' button

It 'may or may not roll it out more broadly in the future'

The rewind 10 seconds button on Netflix has been a godsend, allowing you to more easily skip back if a noise interrupts you or, as is more often the case, your brain wanders off and you end up missing an important plot point.

The streaming service is taking it a step further with a new function however, which lets users instantly replay entire scenes.

It has only been rolled out to a few users at this stage and only on select films and TV shows.

“We’re trying out a feature which gives Netflix members the ability to rewatch favorite scenes and memorable moments with the click of a button,” a Netflix spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times.

“Right now we’re just looking to learn from it and may or may not roll it out more broadly in the future.”

The feature has the potential to be useful, but could also be obtrusive to the viewing experience. A Reddit user whose account the function was enabled on complained of a “watch this scene again” pop-up appearing while streaming.

If a success, the button would take a lot of work to roll out wide, as the beginning of a scene can presumably not be determined by machine.
