Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It's the battle of the TV judges at the National Television Awards tonight as the Bake Off's Mary Berry goes head to head with talent show mogul Simon Cowell.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and David Walliams are also up for the accolade, while hit shows Sherlock, Doctor Who and Downton Abbey will fight to take home the Best Drama gong.

Following its Christmas success, Mrs Brown's Boys will be hoping to win Best Comedy while actress Sheridan Smith is in the running for Best Drama Performance for her acclaimed turn in Cilla.

The Coronation Street cast will be attending the NTAs with heavy hearts after the sudden passing of actress Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre Barlow earlier this week.

William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow in the soap, will take to the stage to share fond memories of his co-star and speak about her lasting contribution. The cast will not walk the red carpet out of respect.

Hosted by Ant and Dec, tonight's ceremony begins on ITV at 7.30pm and takes place at London's O2 Arena.
