Your support makes all the difference.Roberto Escobar, brother of drug baron Pablo and ‘successor-in-interest’ to the family name, asked Netflix if he could watch and assess Narcos before it went out.
"I am submitting a formal, friendly request to review this material solely on an informational basis,” he wrote in a statement. “It is depicting me, my life, my family, and my brother. I think nobody else in the world is alive to determine the validity of the materials, but me.”
Roberto served as the accountant for the Medellín cartel and has written books about his time with it, but Netflix didn’t get back to him.
"We tried to contact Netflix after we had registered the rights to Pablo, prior to Narcos being released with no response," Olof K. Gustafsson, CEO of Escobar Inc., said in a statement. "I think it is important that they recognize Roberto Escobar's wishes to review the show they are putting out, ensuring the family and viewers of an accurate portrayal of Pablo and Roberto."
Roberto was injured in a letter-bombing incident while he was in prison in 1993, and once claimed to have found a cure for AIDS through his work with horses.
