From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In The Club has been commissioned for a second series.

The BBC drama, which charts the friendship between six women who meet at antenatal classes, first aired in August and achieved a peak audience of 5 million.

And Kay Mellor’s hit will return next year, said BBC One controller Charlotte Moore and BBC controller, drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson.

The returning cast includes Strictly Come Dancing champion Jill Halfpenny, Spooks actress Hermione Norris, Katherine Parkinson and Will Mellor.

Adultery, teenage pregnancy and tangled relationships were just some of the themes touched on in the first series – so fans are sure to have high hopes for the next instalment.

Kay Mellor said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Rollem (Productions) to be commissioned to produce a second series of In the Club for BBC One. On a personal note, the whole experience from script to screen was such a positive one for me.

“It’s going to be a bit of a juggling process as I’d love to bring all the characters back but I also want to introduce some new stories. One thing’s for sure, I can’t wait to start the whole process again.”

Charlotte Moore added: “BBC One viewers really took the characters to their hearts and it was exciting to see the show build across the six episodes. Kay Mellor’s story about a group of pregnant women celebrated life in all its joy and tragedy and I’m looking forward to the delivery of series two.”

Filming will resume in Leeds in 2015 and will be a run of six hour-long episodes.
