Joel Kinnaman will star in House of Cards' upcoming fourth season.

Streaming service Netflix announced today (2 February) that the Swedish-American actor - who'll also star in the heavily-anticipated DC film Suicide Squad - is joining the popular TV show in an undisclosed role.

Kinnaman joins fellow cast additions Neve Campbell (Scream) and Colm Feore (24).

In Suicide Squad, he will star as military officer Rick Flagg, a role originally offered to Tom Hardy who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with The Revenant. Kinnaman's previous credits include the 2014 remake of RoboCop, Child 44 and the US version of TV series, The Killing.

House of Cards season four reunites Kevin Spacey's President Frank Underwood with the First Lady, Claire (Robin Wright); plot details are currently unknown.

It was announced this week that the David Fincher-produced TV series would continue for a fifth season without its creator Beau Willimon.

Season four will be available to watch on Netflix from 4 March.
