In what could well be the day's most unlikely news, Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint is set to produce and star in a TV adaptation of Guy Ritchie's cult crime film Snatch.

The project, which is being made for Sony's streaming network Crackle, is bypassing a pilot episode to go straight to series.

Snatch was released in 2000. This new version will follow a group of hustlers who get embroiled in the world of organised crime upon discovering a truckload of stolen gold bullion. Deadline reports that it will 'carry the spirit' of the film while introducing audiences to a host of new characters.

Grint will play Charlie Cavendish, a 'dynamic, frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh' con man, while Dougray Scott (Fear the Walking Dead) will appear as the imprisoned Vic Hill.

British Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick will return to TV screens to play nightclub owner Sonny Castillo.

The ten-episode series is due to air in 2017 with production set to begin Manchester next week.

Post-Ron Weasley, Grint has starred opposite Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in Broadway production It's Only a Play. Nick Frost and Don Johnson action comedy Sick Note is where we'll next see the actor - it'll air on Sky Atlantic next year.

The film version of Snatch stars Jason Statham, Benicio del Toro and Brad Pitt as Irish bare-knuckle boxing champion Mickey O'Neil.
