It’s a mystery to all but a handful of people, but the actor who played King Joffrey reckons he knows how Game of Thrones will end.
Jack Gleeson’s evil character was poisoned at his own wedding over two years ago, but when the 24-year-old appeared at New York Comic Con last weekend, he shared an intriguing and definitely plausible theory with fans.
“This isn’t a spoiler because I know zero about the show and I literally know nothing about what will happen,” he said, according to MTV News. “But a fan came up with this theory that they told me - someone’s going to melt down the Iron Throne because it has the Valyrian steel that will overcome the White Walkers. I think that’s kind of a cool idea - the monarchy is literally dissolved.”
Valyrian steel is revered throughout Westeros for its rare ability to kill White Walkers, while Daenerys’s dragons are always on hand to help with melting, so author George RR Martin and showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff might well be taking notes.

Gleeson also spoke about his feelings on leaving Thrones, insisting that he “left at the right time” because his dad always said he should “never be the last to leave a party”. The Irish actor admitted that he struggles to keep up with the “crazy” latest episodes as he stopped following the show when he left, having never watched himself on screen.
Game of Thrones is expected to return for season seven next spring.
