Daenerys taught the Dothraki that she really isn't one to be messed with, killing every powerful Khal left by locking them inside the temple of Vaes Dothrak and lighting the whole thing on fire. You see, they didn't count on the great Khaleesi emerging from the flames unscathed; as her overlords burned and the Dothraki people bowed to her in awe.
Though Daenerys herself may be flame-retardant; unfortunately, her clothes were not, with her grand presentation of power to the Dothraki being conducted buck-naked.
Which isn't so surprising when we're talking about Game of Thrones, once described by Ian McShane as merely, "tits and dragons". Yet, at least here, the context of Daenerys' nudity is empowering; in the sense that it reveals her utter indestructibility as a character.
Indeed, Clarke revealed her own enthusiasm for the scene, revealing to The Sun that all she needed to prepare was; "vodka and some flattering lighting and I was ready. It was just a wonderful, strong moment I wanted to own, a real empowering, girl-power wow scene."
She had already confirmed that a body double was not used for the scene, alongside a reminder that; "the last time I took my clothes off was season 3. That was awhile ago. It’s now season 6."
The actress has been vocal about Game of Thrones' use of predominantly female nudity in the past, though she's always been supportive of the show's powerful depiction of women, "in so many different stages of development."
She's previously demanded the show "free the penis", and further theorised the whole thing should end with Daenerys on the throne so she can "order close-ups of all the boys’ penises".
Game of Thrones airs on Sunday nights in the US, at 9PM on HBO; and will be simulcast at 2AM on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
