From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A Family Guy extract from 2009, in which baby Stewie calls Kim Kardashian's step-dad Bruce Jenner "a woman" long before Caitlyn Jenner announced her transition, has been excitedly shared on social media, with some people claiming the cartoon series must be psychic.

But while Stewie's crystal ball gazing might be admirable, Jenner first began transitioning in the Eighties, stopping when she met her ex-wife Kris Kardashian.

It's unlikely that famously controversial Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane would have missed the rumours that had been circulating for sometime - even the most sensitive topics are fair game as far as the Ted comedian is concerned.

Olympic athlete turned reality TV star Jenner revealed her new identity as a woman in a Vanity Fair cover feature earlier this week.

The Family Guy clip which went viral on YouTube shows Stewie debating Jenner's gender Jenner's gender with the Griffin family's talking dog Brian.

Upon spotting Jenner's son Brody, Stewie exclaims that he "can't believe that came out of Bruce Jenner's vagina".

Brian replies "Bruce Jenner is a man", before Stewie argues that he is wrong:

"No Brian, that's what the press would have you believe, but he's not. Bruce Jenner is a woman, an elegant, beautiful Dutch woman."

It is not yet known whether Jenner has seen the Family Guy episode and she is yet to remark on it.

Katie Glover, editor of the popular transgender publication Frock Magazine has commented on the viral clip, saying that sometimes you just have to "enjoy the humour".

"Seth's humour often relies on making viewers gasp at the wrongness of what his character has just said, even if it's what many of us are actually thinking ourselves," she told The Independent.

"I'm sure there will also be many trans people who will see that clip from 2009 as some kind of slur on our community but honestly, sometimes you have to just let it wash over you and enjoy the humour.

"While it may seem like Family Guy somehow magically predicted Bruce Jenner's gender change to Caitlyn, it is known that Bruce was on female hormones for years and attempted to transition before, so it should not really be such a surprise."

She will be using female pronouns from now on and her transition will be the focus of new E! docu-series I Am Cait.
