From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Either Downton Abbey is about to get a Truman Show-esque twist that reveals its events have secretly been taking place in the 21st century all along, or the set dresser wasn't paying attention when promo shots were taken for the upcoming season 5.

Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) and Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) stand in front of a mantelpiece in one photo, which is decorated with of-the-period urns and jugs and a rather anachronistic transparent plastic water bottle.

Unless this is the clunkiest product placement deal in TV history, the bottle's inclusion in the photo is probably down to one of the actors taking a quick swig before shooting, but it's amazing that it went by by the photographer, picture editors and press officers without being noticed.

Downton has been filming in the castle used as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films recently.

Series 5 does not yet have a release date, but is expected autumn 2014.
