From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. David McIntosh has become the first housemate to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The former Gladiator and fiancé of Kelly Brook was booted out after receiving the fewest votes from members of the public.

He emerged from the house and danced his way down the steps to cheers from the crowd.

McIntosh, who appeared as Tornado on Sky 1’s TV show Gladiators, was in high spirits despite his early departure from the Channel 5 show.

He told host Emma Willis: “I'm upset.

“I'm a bit of a loser but it's OK. I'll take it on the chin. I'm a competitive man but it doesn't matter - I'm good.”

And model and actress Brook was more than happy to have her husband-to-be back, tweeting the following:

The pair got engaged in March after a whirlwind 12-week romance and McIntosh admitted that he had been pining for Brook in the house.

Asked why he thought fellow housemate Leslie Jordan had exiled him to the “celebrity scrap heap”, he said: “He could sense from me that I was missing my fiancée.”

McIntosh also said that he snuggled up with his bed-mate and Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio inside the house. He told viewers: “I ended up spooning him a few times in the night - but I guess that is force of habit.”

The remaining housemates include reality TV star Lauren Goodger, boxing promoter Kellie Maloney and Will and Grace actor Leslie Jordan. Lethal Weapon actor Gary Busey is currently the bookie’s favourite to win.
