Alec Baldwin returns as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live to congratulate Putin

'A big congratulations to Vladimir Putin. He won a great, great very transparent victory in the Russian election'

Though Alec Baldwin has admitted he may soon step down from his impersonation of Donald Trump, the actor did make a return for the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live.

Holding a press conference with the leaders of the Baltic states, Baldwin's Trump struggled desperately against blurting out every single thought inside of his head, while reading out to himself a note detailed: "Do not congratulate Putin."

"Thank God that's over," he said, after painfully making his way through a prepared statement. "Time to freestyle. A big congratulations to Vladimir Putin. He won a great, great very transparent victory in the Russian election."

"Fantastic job, Putin. Even though no one has ever been tougher on Russia than I am. Including Hitler. Okay, that’s it from me.”

The week's cold open also saw Trump questioned on his hatred of Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos ("because he’s way richer than me and he admits to being bald, so I feel threatened on two levels"), confess his love of TV's revival of Roseanne, and discuss the escalating trade wars with China.

“Here’s the thing no one else is saying, and I’m the only one who’s willing to actually say this: I don’t care about America,” he at one point admits in the sketch. “This whole presidency is a four-year cash grab, and admitting that will probably get me four more years.”

The actor, however, has admitted in the past that the seriousness of the current political situation has given him doubts over his SNL role.

"His policies aside, which you can hate, I thought he would have just relaxed," he explained. "The maliciousness of this White House has people worried… that’s why I’m not going to do it much longer, the impersonation, I don’t know how much more people can take it."
