Frightened crew members have reported seeing “shadowy figures” and hearing “horrifying noises” on the set of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

ITV’s hit reality series returned to screens on Sunday (15 November). While the series is typically filmed in the Australian outback, this year showrunners have moved the series to Abergele, North Wales in order to comply with pandemic-related restrictions.

This series, contestants are instead shacking up in the freezing ruins of Gwrych Castle, a 200-year-old derelict castle that many believe to be “haunted”.

According to The Sun, the show’s production team can now confirm those worries, with a number of crew members reportedly “horror-stricken” after experiencing spectral encounters.

A source told the publication: “People thought they saw a figure at one of the windows a couple of nights ago – and that spot has been pretty much off limits ever since.”

Another said: “There are lots of lights on the main sets but there are also many dark areas behind the scenes and some noises are extremely spooky.”

The sightings may even disrupt filming on the series with many crew members reportedly now reluctant to move around the castle alone to shoot scenes.

“Even staff who don’t believe in that sort of thing are reluctant to go up to some parts that were supposed to be used for running equipment and camera positions,” one insider said.

The castle – which dates back to 1810 – is said to be haunted by Winifred Cochrane, Countess of Dundonald, a poet, landowner and patron of the Welsh arts who supposedly had a grudge against her husband.

Visitors have claimed to see an angry woman in white stalking the castle’s corridors.
