From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Producer Kevin McCollum, who also has his eye on a rework of Mrs Doubtfire, the film version of which starred the late Robin Williams, wants to give The Devil Wears Prada a chance on the stage.
Hit 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada – based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name – starred Anne Hathaway as naïve young journalist Andy Sachs, who ends up as second assistant to the powerful, terrifying editor of Runway, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).
Stanley Tucci took on the role as Runway’s sarcastic art director, Nigel, while Emily Blunt did a fantastic turn as Miranda's first assistant.
McCollum, who produced Rent and Avenue Q, currently has two shows on Broadway that last month racked up 15 Tony Award Nominations: Dark comedy Hand to God featuring Steve Boyer, and the musical Something Rotten!
In the same way as film producers are looking to reinvent classic Disney animations, theatre producers appear to be turning more and more to feature films that they can adapt.
The cast is yet to be announced, but Hathaway is known to be interested in musical theatre, and Streep has always talked about a return to the stage…
