The nominations for the 2019 Olivier Awards have been announced, with The Inheritance emerging as the play with the most nominations, with eight, while the musicals Company and Come From Away took nine nominations each.

The Inheritance transferred to the West End in London following a sold-out run at the Young Vic. It is nominated for Best New Play, Best Director, Best Actor (Kyle Soller) and Best Supporting Actress (Vanessa Redgrave), among others.

In the Best Actor category, Ian McKellen received his 11th Olivier nomination for his performance as King Lear, while David Suchet will be competing in the category for the ninth time, after his role in The Price.

Gillian Anderson received a nod in the Best Actress group for her critically acclaimed performance in All About Eve, and is up against Eileen Atkins (The Height of the Storm), Patsy Ferran (Summer and Smoke), Sophie Okenedo (Antony and Cleopatra) and Katherine Parkinson (Home, I'm Darling).

The annual theatre awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 7 April.
