Doug Jones has won Alabama senate election

Actor Ron Perlman has crafted the perfect response to Doug Jones' Alabama win last night - meaning Doug Jones the Democrat politician, not Doug Jones who played Abe Sapien alongside Perlman in 2004's Hellboy.

Jones has become the first Democrat to win the Senate race in Alabama in 25 years, despite just weeks ago trailing Republican Roy Moore by double digits in the polls.

His win marks a significant triumph and a major blow to Donald Trump, despite Moore still holding onto his Republican support in the wake of allegations that he abused teenage girls and women when he was in his thirties and working as a local prosecutor.

Perlman expressed his relief in the most perfect of ways, writing on Twitter [sic]: "A scumbag comes down an escalator with racism oozing, the lights go off for a time and ALL the cockroaches come out. Well, muthaf*ckas, the lights are back on! Scurry as you may, you’re days are numbered!"

His tweet makes reference to the infamous moment Trump rode down an elevator in Trump Tower to first announce his candidacy.

He also retweeted a touching portrait of voter Patricia Gaines, "whose father, a liberal minister, was driven out of Selma in 1961 by Klansmen on horseback. She went back to Selma for the first time today to drive black voters to the polls."
