Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. She’s still unusual
It’s been thirty years since Cyndi Lauper released her debut album She’s So Unusual, so on 31 March she’ll be releasing a deluxe edition featuring rare demos, live gigs, new remixes and (wait for it) a 3D fold-out backdrop of the bedroom featured in her iconic “ Girls Just Want To Have Fun” video. Perfect for your Cyndi dolls. Watch her bonkers 1984 TOTP performance
Lorde-ing it up
Hot on the scuffed toe-caps of Bruce Springsteen, who covered Lorde’s track “Royals” during a recent gig in Auckland, comes Glasgow trio Chvrches taking on the Kiwi 17-year-old’s second single “Team”. Watch both Lorde-alikes
Electric avenue
Brixton-based band The Melodic release their debut album Effra Parade tomorrow after they were catapulted from busking in South London to an LA record deal when the boss of Anti Records (home of Tom Waits) heard them on Spotify. Watch their catchy single “ Runaway”
The food of love
Considering her new album is called Food it’s apt that Kelis has announced she’ll be playing at Jamie Oliver and Alex James’ The Big Feastival (29-31 August 2014) where you can scoff your face while listening to music. Also on the bill and equally apposite are Fat Boy Slim and acoustic star Jack Savouretti (sounds a bit like savoury). Watch Kelis’ single “Jerk Ribs”
Next week's biggie...
Despite his pancreatic cancer diagnosis last year, legendary Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson is still rocking and next week sees the release of Going Back Home, his joint album with Roger Daltrey. Watch their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window”
