Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Spike Lee ( Malcolm X, Do the Right Thing) is set to direct an upcoming webcast featuring John Legend and The Roots, according to a September 14 press release. Scheduled for September 23, the interactive webcast will feature a live stream of the artists' concert from live music venue Terminal 5 in New York City.
The webcast will be the second in a series that began with Arcade Fire's recent Terry Gilliam-directed webcast from Madison Square Garden. Like that live-streamed event, the upcoming webcast will feature interactive options for viewers, including opportunities to choose camera angles, vote in real time for one song to be performed, and send questions via Twitter to Legend and The Roots for the chance to have them answered during an online pre-show.
The concert and webcast will coincide with the release of John Legend and The Roots' Wake Up!, the artists' collaborative album of covers on the themes of awareness and engagement that also features the original track "Shine." That album is due for release on September 21.
The "Unstaged" series, a joint offering from American Express, VEVO, and YouTube, is planned to include five livestream concerts in all; other participating artists and directors will be announced in the coming months.
For updates on the performance, including news on surprise musical guests, follow American Express on Twitter @AmericanExpress.
The webcast will be streamed live on September 23 at 9:00pm EST at:
