Album: Roots Manuva Meets Wrongtom, Duppy Writer (Big Dada)

The Tony McDermott cover arouses welcome memories of albums by Scientist and Mad Professor, entirely apt for this dub reconstruction of selected titles from the Roots Manuva catalogue.

The mixmaster WrongTom is offered the entire Manuva oeuvre to play with, a job he undertook with the cute idea of imagining how each tune might have been treated in a previous era. Hence "Juggle Tings Proper" becomes the electro-dub "Proper Tings Juggled", while "Motion 5000" is transformed into the roots-reggae groove "Motion 82" and "Buff Nuff" becomes the spare digi-dub "Rebuff". But for all the musical invention involved, the most welcome aspect of the project is the way it throws attention back on Manuva's wordplay, highlighting his innovative skills as a toaster.
