Album: Noisettes, Contact (Mono-ra-rama)
Dan Smith and Shingai Shoniwa know good pop when they hear it and, when they hear it, they're pretty good mimics.
Contact is shamelessly allusive, never remotely challenging and characterised by a get-to-the-chorus immediacy. "I Want You Back" is a Goldfrapp schaffel, "Winner" is Gaga-lite, "Free" has a heavy pinch of Madonna's "Hung Up", and "That Girl" and "Star" are Amy-esque retro-pop. You know what? With a favourable wind, it could easily be massive.
