Album: No Doubt, Push and Shove (Polydor/Interscope)
The sixth album, and first in a decade, from Gwen Stefani & co poses the question: which No Doubt are they resurrecting?
This is a band who started with ska-punk, broke through with saccharine balladry, and peaked with electro R&B. That’s where they pick up. Thereafter, there’s an excess of bog-standard radio-friendly pop-rock, and a couple of wet weepies à la “Don’t Speak”. If Push and Shove doesn’t please absolutely everyone, it’s not for want of trying.
