Album: J Tillman, Year in the Kingdom, (Bella Union)
To say that J Tillman is the drummer in the Fleet Foxes is like saying that Michael Jackson sang with the Jackson 5 – it's true but it tells only half the story.
This is Tillman's sixth solo album and, like the last one, Vacilando Territory Blues (which came out what feels like a few months ago), it will appeal to anyone with a liking for the gentler side of Tillman's day-job outfit. Left to his own devices, Tillman's sound is stripped back, sad and almost hymnal. Though without the harmonies of "White Winter Hymnal", naturally.
