Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Chart veterans Status Quo were given their marching orders today as they were put through their paces by the Army.

The band have re-recorded their 1980s hit In The Army Now to raise money for armed forces charities.

And today they joined 4 Rifles at their barracks in Bulford, Wiltshire, to film the video for the track.

The band - known for their once flowing locks rather than a regulation short back and sides - have updated the track and it now features the Corps of Army Music.

And the line "stand up and fight" is now delivered by a female officer.

The 1986 track, which reached number two when it was originally released, will raise money for the British Forces Foundation and Help For Heroes.

The band's Francis Rossi said today: "It seemed like the right time to do this. The release is intended to show our support for allied forces around the world, but in particular, of course, the British armed forces.

"We want people to celebrate what they do, say thank you and also support this vital charity."

His bandmate Rick Parfitt added: "We've even roped in the Army to create a stunning video that will really give the song some heavy firepower. We'll also be lobbying the Government to waive VAT on the single."

The track is to be released in September.
