The Smashing Pumpkins to tour for first time in 18 years

Three out of four members will reunite

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will reunite for a tour for the first time since 2000.

Original members Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin will reunite for the Shiny And Oh So Bright tour which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the band's inception.

The band announced the news with a video featuring the original Siamese Dream cover stars Ali Laenger and LySandra Roberts.

There will however be one band member missing as D'Arcy Wretzky has declined to participate.

A statement from their publicist said that the three members "haven't played a show with D'Arcy Wretzky for over 18 years" and added "it's not for a lack of trying."

It continued, "For despite reports, Ms Wretzky has repeatedly been invited out to play with the group, participate in demo sessions, or at the very least, meet face-to-face, and in each and every instance she always deferred." In addition to the trio, Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder will also join the band members.

The band's latest run called the Shiny And Oh So Bright tour will feature music from the Smashing Pumpkins' formation through 2000 with material from their debut Gish through Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Adore, and Machina.

"This show and staging will be unlike any we've ever done, and will feature a set unlike any we've ever played," Corgan said. "For if this is a chance at a new beginning, we plan on ushering it in with a real bang."

In 1988, the Smashing Pumpkins formed in Chicago, IL and went onto release their debut album Gish in 1991.

The band released nine albums in total and sold over 30m albums.

The Shiny And Oh So Bright tour kicks off on July 12 in Glendale, AZ. Tickets go on sale February 23.
