From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

You’re not alone in being nostalgic for Slayer’s Reign In Blood days, even Slayer singer Tom Araya’s daughter isn’t into the new stuff.

The meme below was doing the rounds again this week, leading two Reddit users to joke:

"Dad - you said if I came to the grammys I could meet Taylor Swift.. lets gooooo."

"Taylor Swift is a f*cking pussy, put on this eyeshadow and grab the goats blood."

Much to their surprise, Araya’s daughter, Ariel, then popped up, to clear up what was going on in the picture up and give her take on her dad’s band.

“I was 11 at the time when this picture was taken,” she wrote. “Having flash bulbs in your face and 30+ people yelling "LOOK AT ME" can be a little intimidating.

“I love the old Slayer. Some of the newer stuff is eh. My dad misses being home. He isn't lame. He's been the best dad he can be with our circumstances.”

Ariel’s lukewarm reception hasn’t slowed the band down, with Slayer releasing their 12th studio album, Repentless, in September 2015.
