Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Australian rockers Jet were left without their their frontman Nic Cester at a London gig after he collapsed on stage.

The Are You Gonna Be My Girl stars took to the stage at 8pm at Q The Music Club Live At Hard Rock Cafe in London, and performed Rip It Up and their new single She's A Genius before Nic passed out in the middle of the second song.

The rest of the band - drummer Chris Cester, lead guitarist Cameron Muncey and bassist Mark Wilson - finished the track while Nic lay on the stage before he stood up and jokingly told the audience he had swine flu, before fainting again.

Nic had been ill all day and had even been tested for swine flu but had had an injection to settle his stomach as he had been determined to perform.

Bandmate Mark Wilson revealed they hadn't considered cancelling the gig as they have all "had a moment where they've been chronically ill and had to go on stage."

"The only time we've ever cancelled shows is when Nic's throat swelled up and he couldn't actually make any sounds."

Nic was taken by ambulance to the University College Hospital in the city where he was treated for symptoms of gastroenteritis, acute vomiting and dehydration and kept in overnight for monitoring.

The rest of the band soldiered on to perform three more songs - Holiday, Beat On Repeat and Get What You Need.

Jet are currently touring to promote their third studio album Shaka Rock - which is realised in the UK on September 7 - with Mark saying they have ventured to "seven countries in two weeks".
