Yet even the former Beatle and regular Grammy attendee found the image of him rocking away by himself in a large crowd a little bit too damaging to his cool credentials.
During the 57th Grammy Awards, McCartney was filmed really getting into ELO's performance of "Evil Woman," so much so that he got up out of his seat to clap and "bop" along to the song.
Still, being Sir Paul, his recovery was pretty smooth and maybe his dad dancing will reinvigorate embarrassed fathers across the world.
British singer Sam Smith took an early lead at the Grammy awards on Sunday with two wins, including best new artist. Smith, 22, also won best pop vocal album for In The Lonely Hour. Pharrell Williams beat out Smith's "Stay With Me" in the best pop solo performance category with "Happy."
