Gamu makes guest appearence at MOBOs

X Factor reject Gamu Nhengu tonight said that she was over the pain of being kicked off the ITV talent show.

The 18-year-old - who awaits news of whether she will be deported to her native Zimbabwe - spoke out as she made a special guest appearance at the 15th annual Mobo awards.

The little singer, who stole hearts in the early X Factor rounds with her quirky performances, spoke of her torment after judge Cheryl Cole chose not to send her through to the live stages.

Saying that she is currently discussing new music projects, Nhengu said: "Have I got over the pain?

"I guess so.

"The papers don't let me forget it much.

"It was gutting but the love I've got from people has definitely helped, definitely helped to heal the wound."

She denied it was difficult still watching the show, adding: "No, it's fantastic, I love it, you know everybody who's in it and you are rooting for them, you're really hoping they don't fall over on stage or do anything.

"Everybody's been really great and the competition is crazy this year."

The teenager might still be deported to her native Zimbabwe and is battling to stay in Britain.

Asked if issues about her visa to stay had been resolved, she answered: "It's still a little up in the air we don't know what's happening and haven't had any contact yet."

Tonight the singer got a glimpse of where her career could go as she watched a host of international stars land awards for their work.

X Factor runners-up JLS and MC sensation Tinie Tempah took the ceremony by storm.

Both acts landed two gongs in a star-studded ceremony held at Liverpool's waterfront Echo Arena.

The four-piece boyband won Best Album for their eponymous debut and the Best UK Act.

South Londoner Tinie Tempah, 21, was largely unheard of 12 months ago.

Tonight he won Best Newcomer and Best Video for his single Frisky, which reached number two in the singles chart.

Producer Mark Ronson kicked off the show with the Business International in a ceremony hosted by Strictly Come Dancing star Alesha Dixon and BBC Radio 1's Reggie Yates.

Hundreds of youngsters gathered alongside the venue's red carpet and provided a raucous welcome - with extra screaming for chart sensations N-Dubz.

The three piece Camden trio won the Best Song category for Playing With Fire.

Singer Dappy said: "If you've got something to party over, then party.

"But if you're not winning nothing, go home, feel bad, wake up tomorrow and work harder."

Critically acclaimed Plan B - who shot to stardom this year with his album The Defamation of Strickland Banks - won the Best Soul and R&B record.

In a recorded acceptance speech he said the award "meant the world" to him.

Other notable winners were Professor Green for Best UK Hip Hop/Grime Act and Eminem who won Best International Act.

Billy Ocean, whose hits include When The Going Gets Tough, was rewarded for decades in the music industry with a lifetime achievement award.
