Fergie apologises for botched National Anthem performance and says she 'tried her best'

The 'Double Dutchess' singer addressed the criticism surrounding her performance

Fergie has apologised for her rendition of the National Anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Stars game on Sunday night.

The musician explained to TMZ that she wanted to take a risk with her version of the patriotic song saying, "I've always been honoured and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone."

Fergie added that she really gave it her all saying, "I love this country and honestly tried my best."

The Double Dutchess singer attempted a sultry and jazzy National Anthem, which had a lot of people talking.

During the performance, the camera cut to celebrities and athletes trying to hold in laughter and letting it out.

But while the internet has been picking apart Fergie's rendition of the song, one singer has come to her defence.

Mariah Carey gave her some sound advice: "Dahling, nobody needs to listen to that."

In other words, Carey told her to ignore the haters.

Leslie Jones had posted on Instagram, “Why did this happen,” and “you might as well should’ve asked me to sing.”

But when Charles Barkley wanted to talk to about the divisive show, Shaq O'Neal had asked that he leave her alone.

Since Fergie's National Anthem went viral, there has also been a #SingItLikeFergieChallenge circling the internet.
