From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.Ed Sheeran has sent a dove of peace to Noel Gallagher and offered him tickets to his Wembley Stadium gig, despite the Oasis star branding him “polished pop”.
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer was the butt of one of Gallagher’s modern music rants earlier this month but seems to have put the brief feud behind him.
“I don’t think I can live in a world where [Sheeran playing Wembley] is even possible, Gallagher told NME.
“When you hear that kind of polished pop and then there’s a ginger guy with a f**king guitar it seems subversive, but it’s f**king not.”
Not one to take insults lying down, Sheeran soon quipped back on Twitter: “I can live in it, it’s really enjoyable.”
Now, the 23-year-old has revealed that he texted Gallagher after reading his harsh comments and invited him along to one of the sold-out July shows.
“I texted him because I have his number and asked him if he’d like some tickets. He wrote back, ‘You cheeky so and so. My daughter would love some.”
Sheeran added that he takes criticism on board as it helps him to stay grounded. “I get a lot of stick from press and people but it’s good to get stick,” he said. “That’s why Americans go off the rails. Ego-wise you are risen and risen and risen.
“If you speak to anyone from Adele to Chris Martin, they would say they are grounded cos they get a hiding from the press.”
