David Guetta urges people to take Covid vaccine in hope of ‘amazing’ 2021: ‘I don’t see any other way out of this situation’

Vaccine scepticism is relatively high in DJ’s native France

David Guetta has urged people to get vaccinated against Covid-19, to maximise hope for an “amazing”, party-filled year 2021.

The French DJ spoke to Reuters prior to recording a charity concert outside the Louvre Museum in Paris. The show will stream on New Year’s Eve and will raise money for UNICEF and the French organisation Les Restos du Coeur, which provides food and meal to people in need.

“I'm going to do the vaccine, and I hope people are going to do it too because I don't see any other way to go out of this situation,” Guetta told Reuters.

He added that he wants to tell his fans “that we are about to witness the craziest party year of our lifetime because the minute it's going to be open, you know, it's going to be amazing”.

Speaking to The Associated Press, the DJ said he hopes things will look up in 2021, and that venues can safely reopen for “the craziest party ever”.

“I told my kids already, I'm like: ‘Listen, guys, enjoy while I am here because when they open, I’m gone,'” he said. “I’m going to play every single day. People are going to party like they have never partied before.”

France has tracked 2.65 million cases of Covid-19 so far, according to Johns Hopkins University’s data, and 64,508 deaths as of Thursday. It’s among the countries that have been the most affected by the pandemic, in Europe and across the world.

France began its Covid-19 vaccine rollout on Sunday. But vaccine scepticism is strong among French people, and according to a recent poll unveiled by the weekly newspaper Journal du Dimanche, only 44 per cent of people in France are considering taking the vaccine. Among that group, 13 per cent are “certain” that they will receive the jab.
