Paul McCartney makes James Corden cry on Carpool Karaoke

'If my grandfather were here right now he'd get an absolute kick out of this,' says presenter

The latest episode of Carpool Karaoke got emotional, as James Corden was joined by Paul McCartney for a tour of locations that inspired The Beatles' music.

The Late Late Show host was led around Liverpool by McCartney as they tore through some of his most famous songs, including “Blackbird,” and “Drive My Car.”

However, it was a heartfelt rendition of "Let it Be" that left Corden in tears, as he recalled that his grandfather, also a musician, used to play the song to him as a child, adding: "If my grandfather were here right now he'd get an absolute kick out of this."

McCartney also explained the dream that initially inspired the lyrics for the classic song: "I had a dream in the '60s where my mum, who had died, came to me in the dream and was reassuring me saying, 'It's going to be okay. Just let it be.'"

Corden was treated to the ultimate magical mystery tour as he drove down “Penny Lane” with McCartney, who sang the lyrics back to him while pointing out all the places mentioned in the song, as well as some locations more personal to him.

They even stopped off at McCartney's childhood home - now a National Trust tourist attraction - to the surprise of fans. Inside, McCartney reeled off anecdotes about his fellow Beatles members John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr before performing a rendition of the Sgt. Pepper's track “When I'm Sixty-Four” on the piano.

Corden then took McCartney to one of his old drinking spots, which later turned into a buzzing hub of Beatles fans who watched McCartney perform a set including “A Hard Day's Night,” “Back in the USSR” and “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.”

The segment was capped with McCartney inviting Corden on stage with his band to perform a duet of “Hey Jude" to the bustling pub.
