Big Sean raps about reconciling with Kendrick Lamar after death of Nipsey Hussle in new track ‘Deep Reverence’

Lyrics put their rumoured feud down to a ‘lack of communication and wrong information from people’

Rapper Big Sean has revealed that he reached out to Kendrick Lamar after the death of Nipsey Hussle.

Rumours had circulated for years about the supposed animosity between Sean, real name Sean Anderson, and Lamar, with each rapper recording lyrics that were interpreted as digs at the other.

In a newly released, posthumous collaboration with Hussle, titled “Deep Reverence”, Big Sean now explicitly addresses the reports.

““After what happened to Nipsey, I reached out to Kendrick,” he raps. “It wasn’t even no real issues there to begin with / Lack of communication and wrong information from people

“Fueled by the ego is like mixing flames with diesel / Energy crazy, I realise that it’s a two-way street.”

Despite denials from the artist himself, many fans interpreted a lyric in Big Sean’s 2016 track “No More Interviews” as a comment on Lamar.

“And I’m just not impressed by you n****s rapping fast / Who sound like one big asthma attack, but trash when I’m rapping it back,” he rapped. “Who you put in your top five and claim they the savior of rap / So many friends turn to enemies, they frenemies.”

Sean told Budden earlier this year that the pair had “mutual respect” for each other, and reports of the feud had been exaggerated by the media.

Hussle was shot dead outside his Los Angeles clothing shop in March last year. He posthumously won two Grammy awards, for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Performance, for his tracks “Racks in the Middle” and “Higher”.
