From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Swedish indie outfit The Radio Dept. overtakes LA rockers Warpaint to become the most popular act in the blogosphere, according to The Hype Machine on September 22. New in the top ten this week are indie bands The Fresh and Onlys and Twin Sister.

San Francisco-based garage pop band The Fresh and Onlys has just released a new track, "Waterfall," from the upcoming album Play It Strange, set to be released October 12. "It's an eerie number," reviews The Needle Drop (http://www.theneedledrop.com). "There's a bit of surf rock guitar bounding around the mix, too." Music blogger 32Ft/Second (http://32ftpersecond.blogspot.com) adds: "Shambling and mournful, [the new song] explores the Western edge of the indie rock frontier."

New York fivesome Twin Sister is back in the blogs this week after releasing a free download as part of the Shaking Through series, produced by Philadelphia nonprofit Weathervane Music. Every month Weathervane handpicks a rising indie artist to record for a few days in a studio with engineers and producers for free. Twin Sister recorded the track "Meet the Frownies," in 12 hours, along with a video documenting the process. "What started out as a band inside joke has now turned into a soothingly smoky melody," blogs Melophone (http://www.melophone.com) of the new song.
