Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The song dropped on August 2 as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, A Thousand Suns, released on September 14. Part of a concept album exploring themes of war, the track reached number one in the UK Rock Chart and US Billboard Rock and Alternative Rock Songs charts.

English pop artist Florence Welch, known as Florence + The Machine, also advanced 23 slots this week to number eight for her re-released single "Dog Days Are Over." The single, part of her 2009 album Lungs, recently peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 after she performed it at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The video for "Dog Days Are Over" was nominated for four MTV Video Awards, including Video of the Year. In the UK, Lungs has remained in the top 40 for 63 weeks, making it one of the best-selling albums of 2009 and 2010.
