Shrewsbury-born singer songwriter Dan Owen is one to watch.

Honestly, I was worried he was going to be another James Bay, but no - Owen has a voice quite beyond his years, is a versatile guitarist, and judging by his opening performance for Birdy at the Eventim Apollo he's an electrifying live act as well.

We're premiering his new song 'Moonlight' - listen to the incredible vocal performance below:

Q&A with Dan Owen

What are you listening to at the moment?

I listen to quite a wide range of music, my iPod has everything from Rock, EDM, Metal, Reggae and blues. My current top 5 would probably be Jason Isbell, Prince Fatty, Tallest Man On Earth, Selah Sue, Paolo Nutini. I really try not to stick to one genre I think there's something to take from all good music.

What are your plans for 2017?

2017 is going to be a non stop year. Starting with Eurosonic festival in January, I have a European headline tour planned for the first time which I am pretty excited about.

There will also be loads more shows here in the UK. It has been amazing to see my music spreading out online in so many countries recently so hopefully that can continue into 2017!

It feels like there is a long way to go before I really get my head into next year though - I think I still have 40 gigs to play this year! I am fortunate enough to be supporting both Birdy and Kaleo on their UK tours before heading over to Ireland for my own tour.

What was the first gig you ever played and what’s been the best so far?

The first gig I ever did was when I was 13 and me and my sister started a duo where she sang and I played guitar.

We used to follow my guitar teacher's band around town playing in their breaks down at the local pubs. They were the first ever gigs I did but the first place I ever sang and played on my own was on holiday in Cornwall in a pub called the Star Inn in St Just. I was about 16 and I was really nervous but I figured nobody knew me there so I got through it and it actually went really well. I still go and play at that pub when I can.

There have been so many great gigs but one that really stands out this year was a support show at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. It is an incredible old concert hall and the crowd that night were perfect in every way.

Dan Owen plays a headline show at The Waiting Room in London on 15 November
