Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

xxx band BE GOOD have shared their new video for "Nightbus" - an ode to youth and a place famed for drunken trysts with someone you just met - which you can watch first via The Independent.

The Oxford quartet's song is being released via the Communion Singles Club - its penultimate single for 2017.

Ash Cooke (guitar/vocals) and Charlie Clark (drums) originally met at a ceramics evening-class before meeting up with synth player James Cunning (a customer in the café Clark was working at) and mutual friend/bassist Patrick Burley.

Q&A with BE GOOD

What are you guys listening to at the moment?

We were driving back from a gig recently and our bassist Patrick put on a song called “I’m Loving Nothing” by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions – we all shared a bit of a moment over that one. As far as I can tell Charlie’s just been listening to “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn in his room for the last three months.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

We’re playing a show in London at the end of the month with Cousin Kula, and then have a headline show in Oxford to see out the year. Other than that, we’re spending our evenings recording in our house on Cowley Road for an EP release at the beginning of next year. We’re very excited about how the new tunes are shaping up - some real smooth jams on the way.

Can you tell us a few highlights of 2017?

Playing at Latitude Festival was a lot of fun. The BBC Introducing stage was in a really beautiful setting surrounded by tall trees and the crowd was great. There were a few old sofas placed around so it also felt strangely intimate like we were playing for people in a woodland living room.

What was the first gig you ever played and what’s been the best so far?

Our first gig was at the Truck Store, our favourite record shop in Oxford. It was pretty cosy in there – we struggled not to fall off the stage but the audience seemed to dig it. Our live show was pretty scrappy back then! One of our favourite gigs was in the basement of Modern Art Oxford. They were projecting slides from the museum archives behind us and there were sculptures on plinths in front of the stage. We had a blast and it was definitely one to remember.
